Junior Groups To Give Concert

Another concert by the Christchurch School of Instrumental Music and the Junior Choral Society will be given in the Civic Theatre on July 13. The senior orchestral group of the school, the 80-strong symphony orchestra, will lead the concert, the choral group will give a halfhour programme of part singing, and a second orchestral group will play two pieces. There are more than 600 members of the school, which is sponsored by the Christchurch Schools’ Music Association and draws members from high schools, Christchurch Teachers’ College, the University of Canterbury, and other group®. Later this year the whole school will perform as part of the primary schools’ music festival. The conductor of the symphony orchestra, Mr R. IPerks, said last night that the group’s work in preparation for the concert was very competent The concert piece will be the second and third movements of Schubert’s Symphony No. 7 in C. Other items will be the "Caliph of Bagdad” Overture (Boildieu). Fugue a la Gigue (Bach), Serenade (Delius), and Gopak (Mussorgsky). Mr S. M. Delany will conduct the second orchestra, and Mr G.
