BLENHEIM RD LIGHTING

Riccarton Council Critical

“No other city in New Zealand would put up with such poor conditions,” said Cr. R. S. Lester, referring to the lighting in Blenheim road, at a meeting of the Ricoarton Borough Council last evening. The Town Clerk (Mr R. Sarjeant) said he understood that the new lighting units for the road were in New Zealand, but their erection was being delayed because the poles had not arrived. “We have already waited three years for improved lighting—now it looks as if it will be four,” said Cr. Lester.

The Mayor (Mr E. J. Bradshaw) said some delay had also been caused by discussions over the width of the median strip. The council decided to write to the Ministry of Works to find out when the work was likely to begin.
