N.Z. TOURIST ATTRACTIONS
TV Film For Japan New’ Zealand’s tourist industry should benefit from a film being made with the cast of the visiting ‘‘Cherry Blossom Show.” It will eventually be screened on Tokyo’s Channel 8 to more than 40 million viewers and in nearly 300 cinemas. The film has been arranged by the Toho Company (owners of the “Cherry Blossom Show’”), the New Zealand Tourist and Publicity Department, and Mr Harry Wren, who brought the Japanese show to the Dominion.
The staff of the New Zealand Embassy in Tokyo and stars of the show will appear before the cameras in the Channel 8 studio in conjunction with the film's screening.
Stars of the show have been filmed by a New Zealand camera team sailing in Wellington harbour, being entertained by a Maori group ait Napier and before other tourist attractions. The company’s producer. Mr K. Ito. a ski champion in Japan, is expected to go to the Fox Glacier for ski-ing sequences and other members of the company are expected to be seen skating at bake Tekapo. Tourist Department photographers have taken many photographs in colour for distribution to airline, shipping and travel agencies in Japan. Mr Wren said recently that in September restrictions on the yen will be removed and that the Dominion can expect a considerable flood of tourists from Japan.
