LONDON, June 27. The Cabinet Minister, 51 years of age, took a left jab to the chin without a wince and hit back with a right hook and an uppercut. Mr Joseph Johnson, a father of six and Nigeria’s Federal Minister of Labour, was in fighting form, the “Daily Express” reported. Passing through London yesterday he decided there should be no idle half-hour; and he had a quick work-out at a gymnasium in preparation for his bout next month with Ghana’s heavy-weight champion. Jack Toller.
Mr Johnson, 6ft 4in and 16 stone, said later: “My wile thinks I am mad. "But I want to show her that at 50 it is not yet time to quit the ring.” He said he had been fighting for 30 years and had had about 40 bouts. “I don't know whether I shall win the fight, but I shall still be there in the fourth,” he added. The bout is planned as a support to the Dick TigerGene Fullmer world middleweight fight in Ibadan, Western Nigeria. Mr Johnson is also Nigeria's Minister of Sport
