AUCKLAND, June 26. A dancing and domestic partnership was broken in Auckland this morning when the French dancer. Robert Pomiie, left by air for Melbourne. The guest principal with the Australian Ballet Company, in which he partnered his wife. Kathleen Gorham. Mr Pomie said that they had agreed to a divorce
Earlier the artistic director of the company, Peggy van
Praagh, had announced Mr Pomie’s withdrawal from the company “owing to a disagreement on contractural matters with the management."
“I am very sorry to be going like this, particularly at the beginning of the New Zealand tour, because I like New Zealand very much,” said Mr Pomie today. “But the fact is that I cannot dance any longer with my wife. I did ask the management to allow me to partner Sonia Arova (another guest principal), but the management would not agree to this, and there is really nothing else for me to do but go ”
