Basketball FOUR CLUBS WARNED
Teams May Be Withdrawn
Unless subscriptions to the Canterbury Basketball Association are in the hands of the treasurer by next Saturday four clubs will be withdrawn from the competition. Thia decision was reached at an executive meeting last night after a discussion concerning the payment of subscriptions. The treasurer (Mts J. Lee) reported that all teams had received their final notice prior to last Saturday, and that they could now be withdrawn immediately. according to the constitution. As the clubs concerned were mostly new clubs, the executive decided to extend a further week's grace. Permission for Cashmere High School to defer the playing of its competition game because of an inter-school visit on July 13 was sought. There waa considerable discussion, members agreeing that granting permission would create a precedent, and that with the many high school teams now taking part in Saturday basketball? the association could find itself in an awkward position. However, the draw steward. Mrs Shannahan. pointed out that permission seemed to be sought only for leading teams, and she suggested that if the onposing team agreed to a change of time, then the game be played at the end of the competition if it affected the result.
