ARRESTS IN ALGERIA
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) ALGIERS, June 25.
The Algerian Prime Minister (Mr Ahmed Ben Bella) told the National Assembly today that four men had been arrested in a conspiracy against the State.
Mr Ben Bella made the announcement after a Deputy urged the Government to make a statement on the reported arrest of Mr Mohammed Boudiaf, former VicePresident of the Provisional Algerian Government. Sources indicated earlier today that Mr Boudiaf was among a group of people under arrest and was accused of “subversive activities.”
Seagulls
Sir, —Is it possible that our “city fathers” are Awaiting for the seagulls to take complete possession of our city before something is done about them? I read with interest about the proposed steps to be taken at Mangere to get rid of these birds. May I suggest that aeroplanes are not the only vehicles to be menaced by 1 them. Frequently I have observed them swoop Within inches of passers-by, buses, and cars. Must we wait for a tragedy? Admittedly the people who are terrified of birds are in the minority, but imagine the outcry if the busiest part of the city became suddenlyinfested with rats, mice, or spiders! Steps would be taken to clear them before the end of a single day Yours, etc.,
ONE OF THE QUAKING MINORITY. June 26. 1963.
