£16,000 FOR HOTEL

Governor’s Bay Property Mr L. B. Haywood, a wellknown butcher and a prominent bowler, bought the Ocean View Hotel, Governor’s Bay, for £16,000 at public auction yesterday Although more than 100 persons attended the sale there were only five bids. The initial bid was £12,000. There were tour bids of £lOOO. When offering the property, the auctioneer (Mr J Dyer) said that the owner, Mr D Rodgers, was prepared to leave £lO,OOO on first mortgage for five years with a right of renewal. Mr Rodgers bought the hotel from Mr J. Steel 37 years ago, but did not acquire the licence until 16 years later. Mr Rodgers, who was born in Queenstown more than 80 years ago, has held hotel licences for more than 50 years. Built of weatherboard with an iron roof, the hotel, which is situated on 10 acres, has 14 bedrooms, a lounge, dining room, kitehen and storeroom. Houses Sold

Described as a family-type residence, a bungalow with a slate roof at 10 Heathfield avenue. Fendalton, was sold for £4500 a few minutes after it had been passed in at £4300. The property was offered on account of the estate of Mr H. S. J. Goodman. The auctioneer was Mr D; Chapman. The house has four -bedrooms. hall, lounge, sunroom, breakfast room, kitchen, pantry, bathroom, and laundry. There is also a brick garage and workshop on the section of 30 perches. Offered on account of the estate of Agnes Mitchell, a house at 37 Stapletons road. Shirley, was sold for £2300. The initial bid was £2OOO There were two bids of £lOO and two of £5O. The auctioneer was Mr G. H. Kissell. The house, on a section of 33.8 perches, was described as being in need of painting and decorating. It has three bedrooms, lounge, and living room.

A weatherboard bungalow, about seven years old. on a section of 25.6 perches at 17 Taurima street, Hornby, was sold for £1925 The auctioneer was Mr A. E. Barrell The opening bid was £1835 There was one bid of £65, and one of £25.

The house has two bedrooms. living room, and kitchen. It was a mortgagees’ sale.
