ELECTION SUCCESS

Labour Point Of View (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE. June 25. Labour or Socialist parties required a responsible defence policy if they wanted to win elections. Mr Anthony Crosland, a British Labour member of Parliament, said last night. The parties also would have to be clearly democratic, and against communism. Marxism, and totalitarianism, he said. Another requisite was that the party should be a national party, and not simply a class party, he said. “Of course, it will continue to draw tihe bulk of its support from the trade unions and the organised working class, but. if iit is thought to be confined to that support, its chances of winning the majority of the electorate are very small,” Mr Crosland said.
