There was a big increase m the number of electric radiators produced in 196162, the total number being 154.900 (value. £1.267.000). compared with 89.000 (value £ 596.200) in 1960-61. On the other hand, the number of kerosene heaters made declined from 43200 (value. £313.600) in 1960-61. to 8300 (value, £58,700) in 1961-62. Plastics’ Growth The value of plastics output from the 113 establishments surveyed in 1961-62 was £ 10,400,000, compared with £9200.000 from 91 establishments in 1960-61. Of the total output in 1961-62 '1960-61 figures in parentheses), Auckland produced £4,400.000 (£3.900.000), Christchurch £3.200.000 (£3,000 000) Hutt £1.300.000 (£1200.000). Wellington £662.000 (£585,000). and other employment districts £740,000 (£550,000), says the issue. Footwear Output The volume of production of the footwear industry in 1961-62 increased by 10 per cent, on the previous year and the value of production increased from £11,059,000 in 1961 to £12.400.000 m 1961-62 The number of persons employed in this industry increased from 5254 to 5559 (6 per cent.), and salaries and wages pa.d totalled- £3.678.000 in 1960-61 and £4.084,000 in 1961-62, a rise of 11 per cent. Cosmetics Statistics compiled show that the value of production of toilet goods and cosmetics in 1961-62 was as follows (1960-61 figures in parentheses): dentrifices £472,000 (£413,000), hair preparations £658.000 (£552.000), skin treatments £337,000 (£387,000) make-up preparations £371,000 (£354.000), and perfumery £122.000 (£139 000) The value of pharmaceutical products in 1961-62 was £2.059.000. as compared with £1.875,000 in the previous year. The value of other chemical products in 1961-62 included the following (1960-61 figures in parentheses): ink £641.000 (£537,000), disinfectants and antiseptics £491,000 (£414.000), insecticides, rodenticides. and fungicides £531.000 (£607.060), weed - killers £904.000 (£882.000), stock remedies £802,000 (£743.000) sheep dip £260,000 (£131.000), polishes £353.000 (£398.000), and household and industrial cleaners £1.037,000 (£779,000), the issue stated.
