EXPLOSION OF CABLE
Shopping Area Blacked Out
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 14.
A cable on the top of a power pole outside the public library in Takapuna exploded at 7.25 tonight and showered the pole and footpath with scalding pitch. The city shopping area was plunged into darkness as fuses in transformers in other places blew out. The blackout lasted an hour and shops had to close until improvised lighting was arranged.
“I am disappointed,” said the manager of a large store. “This is the second time this has happened on a Friday night.”
