MISSILES READY

First U.S. Titans

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) TUCSON (Arizona), June 13 America's first Titan II inter-continental missile squadron was now operational in Tucson, the United States Air Force announced today. It is the first of six squadrons scheduled to become operational this year. The Titan II can carry twice as big a payload as any other inter-continental weapon.

It can be fired within a minute.

It uses liquid propellants which can be stored in its tanks indefinitely. They burn spontaneously when mixed.

The missiles are housed in fortresses 1345 ft under the ground from where they can be fired. There are nine launch sites in the Tucson area.
