Reply On Hotel Statement

A request that Mr K. B Wigmore. the general manager of the Tourist and Publicity Department, confirm the understanding that to obtain State assistance to build hotels at tourist resorts, applicants must be able to supply 50 per cent, of the finance required, has been included in a reply to Mr Longmore’s statement this week by Mr H E Radley the chairman of the Canterbury Public Relations Committee M.’Radley said last evening he was pleased to learn from Mr Longmore's statement. published in ‘‘The Press” yesterday. ' that the general manager was in agreement with the fact that Akaroa had natural beauty ano was not far from a major airport and harbour ‘‘ln that sense. Akaroa apparently qualifies for Government financial assistance in the erection of tourist accommodation.” said Mr Radley. “Mr Longmore further says that the Akaroa applicants have not complied with the rules laid down by the Cabinet for the granting of such assistance." he said

If his understanding of the requirements were confirmed said Mr Radley, then he hoped that the applicants would arrange finance to enable them to qualify for assistance

“Christchurch and Canterbury definitely want to see Akaroa become a first-class tourist resort. I can promise the utmost assistance of the. public relations office and I feel sure that the Canterbury Progress League would be thoroughly behind any such help," said Mr Radley
