700 At Nurses’ Ball
Two illuminated skeletons and a model of a nurse at study were features of the deoorartdons art the Winter Garden for the Nurses’ annual ball last evening.
Comic posters illustrating aspects of hospital life, clusters of multi-coloured ballroom. Posy bowls of flowers of red and white flowers decorated the lounge and ballroom. Posy boawls of flowers decorated the supper room. The guests were received by the president of the Student Nurses’ Association (Miss C. Fox-Rogers) and her partner. More than 700 persons attended the ball.
Invited guests included the Matron-in-Chief of the Christchurch Hospital (Mrs M
Chambers), the Medical Superintendent (Dr. J. Cairney) and Mrs Cainney, the deputy Matron-in-Chief (Miss D. R. Newman), and the hospital chaplains. Canon R. P Andrews and Mrs Andrews, and the Rev. C. A. Mitchell and Mrs Mitchell. Mrs Chambers wore a fulllength gown of off-coffee chiffon with a softly draped bodice worn with a deeper tone stole.
Miss Fox-Rogers wore a full - length gown of greygreen satin, designed with a scooped neckline and capped sleeves. The skirt had a straight front panel and the full beck had a trail of satin roses and leaves. The dropped waistline at the back had a cummerbund effect.
Mrs Calmey chose a black carded silk gown featuring bands of black velvet and jet bead trimming. Her gown had a fitted bodice with black velvet shoulder straps and a flared skirt. Members of the committee which organised the ball were Misses C. Fox-Rogers, L Gibb, V Norris, and M. Ainsworth.
