90 Days’ Detention

For Soldier

A 21-year-old soldier was sentenced to 90 days’ detention on charges of being absent without leave while confined to eatnp, and of losing Army equipment by neglect, by a district courtmartial at Burnham Military Camp, yesterday. The sentence is subject to confirmation by toe convening authority. The soldier. Private B. A. Carson, of toe 2nd Battalion, New Zealand Regiment, pleaded guilty to the first charge and not guilty to the second He was found guilty on both. Private Carson absented himself without leave for 88 days because he needed money for repairs to his car. On the second charge, Carson was charged with losing equipment to toe value of £7 2s lOd. He was convicted of the loss of £1 Ils 5d worth of equipment. Carson was defended by Second Lieutenant A. L. Burks. The prosecuting officer was Second Lieutenant G. L. Monks, and Major G. C. C. Sandston was the judge-advo-cate. Major E R. Winter was president of the court, of which toe members were Captain R. H. Colwill and Lieutenant E. W. GledhiU.
