Attempt To Win Spring Cups

The Australian weight-for-age champion. Aquanit*, now gelling at Hallam, near Melbourne. will be prepared tor the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups double next spring, the trainer, R. Shaw, said today. In the fint cupe double chart Issued this week, Aquanita was on the second line with the New Zealand-bred Summer Regent for the on* mile and a half Caulfield Cup on October 19.

Aquanita. heavily backed in the Caulfield Cup last vring. was withdrawn on race day because of the heavy track. He then won the 10 furlong W. S. Cox Plate at Moonee Valley and the 10 furlong L. K. S. McKinnon Stake* at Flemington before running third with 9-4 behind Even Stevens and Comiequita in the Melbourne Cup. After the Melbourne Cup he was given a spell- On resuming he was unplaced over five furlongs at Flemington in February, but then won his next three starts st weight-for-age, ending with the St. George Stakes (nine furlongs) at Caulfield Ln March. An injury caused him to miss his other autumn engagements. Aquanita, now a six-year-old horse, has started 67 times for 29 wins, 10 seconds, and nine thirds, and has won £61,533 in stakes.
