(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, June 13,
The Government’s economic development plans now provided for electricity demands uip to 1970, said the Minister of Electricity (Mr Goosman). tonight when he replied to claims made by the deputy-Leader of the Opposition (Mr Watt) that there would be a power shortage in the North Island if the Cook Strait cable was not in service by 1965. Mr Goosman said the plans made by toe National Government took into account all the factors to be met in completing the inter-island transmission of power. The manufacturing and laying schedule for the cable allowed for delays such as had occurred and in spite of the manufacturing problem now being overcome, the cable would be laid in ample time to supply power to the North Island by April, 1965.
