Dairy-Farmers’ Plight
(N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREI, June 11. The acting-chairman of the Northland Dairy Association (Mr E. R. Bird) said at a meeting today that there were still a lot of people who thought that if “you put the screws on the farmer you will get more production.” Sixty per cent, of Northland’s farmers were in trouble and something had to be done soon, he said. “We’ve talked about costs before, but no-one cares tw*opence if you keep up your production.” he said. “The figures speak for themselves, although if you read the newspapers from day to day you would think that we were on the up and up."
