Milk Plant In Thailand

WELLINGTON, June 10.
An agreement has been signed between New Zealand and Thai interests providing for the establishment of a plant in Bangkok to produce condensed and evaporated milk from New Zealand milk solids.
The project was announced today in Wellington and Bangkok by the partners tn the venture tne Njw Zea land Dairy Board and the directors ot a Bangkok food manufacturing company Pop Dairy Products Ltd
Thailand is easily the largest market in Asia for
condensed milk Imports ji sweetened condensed and un sweetened evaporated milk into Thailand over the las' five years have averaged over 45.000 tons annually The bulk of this trade nas been supplied by Holland with lesser quantities coming from Denmark. Australia "Switzerland and some mm<r suppliers Present shareholders ot Pop Dairy Products and the Dairy Board wil) have an equal in terest in the new company The company will establish a plant in Bangkok to produce sweetened condensed and unsweetened evaporated milk from New Zealand milk oowder and butterfat and in the case of condensed milk also using Thai sugar The company has been awarded “pioneer status” marking it as an enterprise which is welcomed by the
Government of ihailand as one likely to strengthen the Thai economy and as one en itled to receive various con cessions designed to assist trits establishment
A site has been acquired in Bangkok The building is being designed by the board in association with Mr Rachai Fechapnunphol. managingdirector of Pop Dairy Products and construction is to be put in hand immediately Orders are being placed for the plant and production will begin next year
