GOLF ‘Cute’ St. Andrew's Course Wanted In U.S.

(N.Z P.A.-Reuter—Copyright)

LONDON. June 10

Paul Dye. an amateur golfer from New York., who builds golf courses for a living, wants to construct a replica of the Old Course at St. Andrews in the United States.

Fortunately, says tile "Daily Mail” reporter at St Andrews, to whom Dye talked of his idea, their conversation took place well out of earshot of the Royal and Ancient members settled in their armchairs. “This little old course of yours is cute,” said Dye "Kinda unique. We have nothing like it in the States. I have already made a model of the seventeenth hole and will put it into one of our existing courses.

"If I find someone with £250,000 to spare I will do a package deal and reconstruct the whole thing. “My company does aerial surveys which are accurate in contour to within an inch. “We need 6000 new courses in the next 20 years and it would be criminal for us not to have a St. Andrews. “We have 23 courses under construction at the moment, moat of them for big industrial corporations which consider golf as the chief recreational outlet for their workers. They cost around £ 100.000 each and they are generally flat and easy to play. Workers taking up

this game like to be flattered and easy courses are essential.

"If I find a buyer for the St. Andrews idea then I might construct replicas for your other championship courses," Dye said.
