Irrigation Report To Be Presented To Govt.
(From Our Own Reporter)
WELLINGTON. June 7. A report prepared by Lincoln College on the subject of irrigation and its value to the individual farmer will be referred to the Government for its' consideration. This assurance was given today by the Minister of Works (Mr Goosman) after he had received a deputation from the Winch more Irrigation Development Association The deputation presented the report, together with one prepared by the association. Members of the deputation were Messrs J Jones. H G Morris and A E. P Kilian (secretary), and Dr Stewart, of Lincoln College The Minister of Lands (Mr Gerard) introduced the deputation The Minister of Transport (Mr McAlpine) was also present The reports ’ suggest that irrigation is of very doubtful economic advantage to individual farmers, in that their net re'urn may be no greater than that of a dry-land farmer. and possibly even less
though they may have a greeter volume of production Irrigation charges to farmers are expected to be reviewed shortly
“We had an amicable discussion on the two reports.” Mr Goosman said. “The position has some difficulties, which must be considered. I told the deputation that I would refer the matter to the Government for its consideration.”
