Cow Problem An old black and white cow with "cnimpled horns" was the subject of a brief discussion at yesterday’s meeting of the Wairewa County Council. The cow frequently strayed around the roads of Little River, said tfie foreman (Mr T. Stuart) and had been returned to its owner by a ranger twice in the last fortnight. “And I’m getting sick of trotting around the domain with a shovel and bucket before football matches on Saturdays,” said Cr. P. N. Ussher. adding that he. too, knew the cow. The council decided to impound the cow and prosecute the owner if it strayed again. Heading Setter Mr J. R. Archibald, who has set nearly all headings in “The Press” tor 39 years, set his last line last evening and retired. Representatives of many departments of the newspaper attended a farewell gathering round the stone, and the editor (Mr A. R. Cant), the printer (Mr W. J. Rudduck), the father of the chapel (Mr W. H. Cull), and the deputy chief subeditor (Mr L. C. Fitch) paid tributes to Mr Archibald’s expert and long service. ' No Delegate No representative ’from the Christchurch West High School’s board of governors will attend the annual conference' of the New Zealand Secondary School Boards’ Association at Auckland in August. Because of the expense involved, between £33 and £35 for a delegate, the board decided last night not to send anyone. However, the principal (Mr T. R Richards) will attend a conference called by the New Zealand Post-primary Teachers’* Association on June 21 and 22 in Wellington.
