Elrey May Be Penalised

(N.Z Press Asin —Copy-tauti MELBOURNE, June 6 The jumper Elrey, which won toe Great Northern Hurdles carrying 9-8 at Auckland last Saturday, has become liable for a penalty in the Australian Grand National Hurdles but not for toe Grand National Steeplechase, toe Melbourne "Herald” reported today. He could be rehandicapped up to 141 b. toe newspaper said. Elrey has 10-4 for toe hurdle on July 6 and 10-11 in toe steeplechase on July 13 at Flemington. So far no decision on a visit for the Nationals has been made, the “Herald” said. He is one of toe hurdle fancies but is at long odds for toe steeplechase.

Elections. The Canterbury branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants this week elected Mr C. Walklm as its assistant secretary. It is understood that Mr Walklin defeated two other candidates.
