RACING Wingatui Stable May Take Double

“The Press" Special Service

DUNEDIN, June 6.

The powerful Wingatui stable of D. P. Wjlson may produce the winning double at the Dunedin Jockey Club’s meeting on Saturday, with Palisade in the Queen Elizabeth Handicap, one mile, and Warfare in the Empire Handicap. -

Palisade was a fast finishing second to Magic Casement over seven furlongs on the opening day of the meeting. Palisade will meet the Perilous mare on better terms and the extaa furlong should be to his advantage. Chattel carried 7-13 when she beat Magic Casement (7-0) over seven furlongs at Invercargill last month. There was only half a head between them at the finish. With Tombob third and Brandy Gold sixth. Chattel comes in on 151 b better terms. She failed at Waimate, but appears to have done well in the meantime.

The top-weight Irrepressible (6-11) beat all but Desert Chief in the Birthday Handicap. If she starts she wiU &dd to the prospects of a Wilson stable success. McGregor made a fresh start at Waimate. He may need another race or two to bring . him back to . his best. Valaris, a’ winner at the Nelson meeting, should be better suited by the looser going.

Tombob recorded a first, a second and a third in his last three races, but he has missed work because of an injury which prevented him from starting on the first two days of the meeting. Donna Maria, a disappointing ninth on Monday, will have a chance to redeem herself.

Captain Morgan and Melotone, stablemates of McGregor and members of H A. and H. T. Anderton’s stable, should be suited by the going. Has Class The class galloper, Warfare, which showed her ability with an easy three lengths win on Monday, will be attempting to win the Empire Handicap tor the second year in succession.

On Saturday , she has second top-weight of 9-10, 31b less than the consistent veteran, The Wanderer, which has been out of a place only once in his Last 10 races.

A likely improver under the changed track conditions is Tutton, a winner at Waimate two starts back and a proved galloper onf the Wingatui track in winter.

Gold View raced well below her best kst week and would need to show considerable improvement. Consistenitiiy placed in his recent racing, Gold Venture is expected to make another sound effort. The shorter distance of six furlongs should be to his advantage. The same can be said of Tocsin, which made the running to the straight on Monday. Duplex did not race up to expectation on Monday and he is capable of a better effort. Brandy Gold was a fair third in Monday's sprint and Sir Athol, an impressive winner under 9-0 the same day, is an interesting candidate in his first attempt in open class.
