STALKERS’ RULES

(NZ Press Association) A’ELLINGTON. June 2.

Deerstalkers were in a position to give valuable service to New Zealand by helping to reduce as far as possible the number of deer which threatened to do great damage to this country, said the President of the Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society (Mr R. C. Nelson) at the annual meeting in Wellington on Saturday. His remark was made when he commented on a controversy which had arisen from the decision of the Fiordland National Park Board to end the experiment which allowed the Deerstalkers' Association to manage wapiti in the park Any person who wanted to shoot wapiti in the area must apply to the association for a pennit Overseas visitors seeking a hunting holiday in New Zealand might qualify for a ballot for a permit by paying in advance at least five subscriptions to the New Zealand Deerstalkers’ Associate.

If an applicant was lucky enough to draw a block permit he was required to pay a further £l5 to the association for a permit, he said.
