NURSING SERVICE
Expansion Of Work
An incraase in staff and a consequent expansion of work is shown in the annual report of the Nurse Maude District Nursing Association. During the year, 62.581 nursing treatments were given in private homes in the city, suburbs and country areas covered by the association. Nearly 600 patients were treated every month. Home aids made 9001 working visits to 673 homes. The laundry service records 3837 visits to homes and 36,227 articles laundered. The association's district nursing and home ajd revenue account shows a deficit of £1584. This is largely attributable to an expansion of work, the need to employ more nurses and home aids, and by higher salaries awarded, the report says. Home Nursing
During the year, nurse trainees, nurse adds, and male nurses from Christchurch, Princess Margaret, and Burwood Hospitals accompanied the association’s nurses on their rounds.
‘This opportunity to observe the home conditions, the problems and illnesses of patients in their own homes, will undoubtedly deepen the students' sympathy and understanding,” the report says.
The association expresses its gratitude to the Christchurch Aged People’s Welfare Council’s occupational workers and the Red Cross Good Neigh tour Service for their help to the sick, the frail and the aged still living in their own homes. The association’s two hospitals show a high bed occupancy during the last year. At the Nurse Maude Memorial Hospital for women the bed occupancy for the year was nearly 93 per cent, *he highest since the hospital opened. Averill House Hospital for men continues to be heavily booked, With a bed occupancy of 98 per cent.
