Adoption Of Manual (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 2 An instruction manual and guide for underwater activities was adopted for use by all affiliated clubs at today s annual meeting of the NewZealand Underwater Association. The manual aims for the greatest possible element of safety through the standardising of techniques. In particular, its shows standard hand-signals for divers based on internationally adopted practices. Snorkel and Scuba diving are discussed, methods of training are expounded and tests for certificates of underwater completence are detailed. About 100 delegates attended the conference, which was opened yesterday by the Mayor of Wellington (Mr F. J. Kitts). Today the meeting decided to join the World Federation of Underwater Clubs. It was agreed to hold the association's national spearfishing championship at Whitianga in February next year. Reports were presented on the filling and testing ot cylinders and on minimum stapdarda of underwater equipment, together with the need for liaison with the police and the Search and Rescue Organisation. The following officers were elected —President. Mr R. L. Spurdie (Wanganui); vicepresident, Mr S. W. Thomas (Wellington); secretary, Mrs P. HaU (Wellington)’, treasurer, Mr J. P. Calcott (Waikato).
