HAY BARN DESTROYED

1000 Bales Lost

A barn containing 1000 bales of hay, a milking shed, and equipment on the farm of Mrs C. Castleton, at Warkworth. were destroyed by fire which broke out at 830 tonight. A storm in which there were flashes of lightning and claps of thunder was raging at the time. Mrs Castleton said the fire destroyed her entire winter supply of hay. She estimated her toes at several thousand pounds. TTie hay and plant alone were worth £lOOO. A small insurance on the barn would not cover half the cost of the hay. The fire was still blazing furiously more than two hours after it began.

Car Leaves Road.—When a ear left the Gebbie’s Pass road, about three miles from the Christchurch-Akeros main highway last evening Francis Regis Costello, of Gebbie’s Pass, suffered heed injuries He was treated ait the Christchurch Hospital.
