Society Calls
For Restraint (N.Z. Preu Association) WELLINGTON, June 2. The Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society is concerned about the apparent onslaught on the few remaining stands of native timber in New Zealand. In his report to the annual meeting of the society yesterday, the president (Mr R C Nelson) said in view of the availability cf good exotic timbers, the society had hoped more restraint would have been exercised in operting up the few remaining indigenous stands. “There appears to be an urge to convert the trees into rash, and this must lead to problems in a few years,” he said. "Moreover, each tree felled further reduces the habitat of our forest birds."
