“DIV. CAV.” REUNION
Comradeship Praised
“The world of today is in need of just that kind of comradeship and co-operation which we knew so well, and we can each contribute to it. whether in our own family circle, our own community or in politics.” said the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt. Rev A. K Warren) at the 2nd Divisional Cavalry Regiment's national memorial service at the War Memorial in the Cathedral grounds, yesterday morning.
Bishop Warren, a former padre of the regiment, urged th-“ 21S men present to remember not only those who did not come back, but also the spirit of the regiment.
“What was it that bound us together,” he asked "I suggest that it was our faith in each other and in the decency of men. “I do not believe that there was any regiment tn the whole of the New Zealand Division that had a deeper or a greater comradeship than we had. or a more dashing ore, as befits a cavalry regiment. Of course, we each found somebody whom we hated at first, but how soon we found how mistaken we were
“I suggest to you that the best memorial to our friends we are thinking of this morning is for each of us to display, today and in the coming days, that same sense of comradeship and co-operation as we had in the war.” The Governor-General (Sir Bernard Fergusson) attended the cabaret held at the Addington Racecourse tea kiosk on Saturday evening In a brief address he said that great pleasure was felt by hit old regiment, the Black Watch, at now being linked with the “Div Cav " through the affiliated regiment, the New Zealand Scottish Regiment. The Governor-General said he had been told by the colonel of the Black Watch that the regiment felt very honoured.
