(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU. June 2.

A commemorative service and a conversazione preceded the opening of eight cottages at the Margaret Wilson Home. Seddon street High field, on Saturday. The additions, costing £40,000 represent a big advance in the care of elderly persons in Timaru.

The work of the Presbyterian Social Service Association» here began 43 years aigo. when a building was purchased in North street for use as a children’s home. In 1947. the property in Seddon street, now known as the Margaret Wilson Home, was purchased. This building was enlarged to accommodate 29 persons, and officially opened in 1953. The new cottages include six single units. In a few months a £20,000 geriatric hospital will be added to the scheme to ensure total care of the residents in every condition. A modern kitchen, built at a cost of £3OOO. will also meet the needs of the proposed hospital ward. Last year there were 30 residents. Now there are 40. and when the hospital ward is completed this number will be increased to 50 as there will also be added two more flats
