INVERCARGILL, June 2. G Murphy, of the Invercargill Swords Club, who has been chosen to represent New Zealand in Australia In August, lost his South Island fencing title to E Nye, of the Claymore Swords Club, Dunedin, at the South Island fencing championships in Invercargill at the week-end

Nye was In grand form In three events, the electric foil, epee and sabre, he had only one loss. Nye won the epee and the sabre events without loosing once. He finished second. W'ith one loss, to E. Thomas (Christchurch Swords Club) in the electric foil.

Murphy was unplaced in the electric foil and epee, but finished third on the count back of points In the sabre He made slight amends by winning the men's visual plate. going through this event undefeated

Mrs O. Jekyll, of the United Swords Club. Christchurch retained her South Island title Mrs Jekyll went through the electric foil undefeated Irr second place was Mrs M Angelo, of Gore, whose onlv loss was to Mrs Jekyll.
