FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A cold front is moving slowly northwards over the South Island. A deepening depression in the north Tasman Sea is moving eastwards. Forecast:

Canterbury.—Moderate southerlies prevailing; changeable with occasional showers and increasing fair periods this afternoon; rather cold. Outlook: unsettled.

Marlborough.—Fresh north-westerlies, changing to moderate southerlies this evening; mainly fine, but a few showers with the wind change; temperatures becoming colder. Outlook: unsettled.

Nelson.—Variable winds; fine at first, but a period of rain this afternoon; temperatures moderate. Outlook: fine, but rather cold. Buller and, Westland.—Rain this morning, but winds changing to moderate southerlies and the weather clearing from the south later today; rather cold. Outlook: fine.
