Rare Photograph
CAPE TOWN.
The earliest photograph taken in the Crimean War was recently discovered in South Africa by Dr. A. D Bensusen, of Johannesburg, and now been authenticated by the Royal Photographic Society of Britain. Richard Nicklin was the first photographer to go to the Crimea and the photograph is the only one of Nicklin’s work. Richard Nicklin was lost when his transport foundered in the harbour erf Balaclava in November. 1854.
The photograph came from Mir F. C. N. Haasaird, of Mtubatuba, in Nadal.
