BULK MASH FOR POULTRY

A bulk mash delivery within a radius of 50 miles from Christchurch has been Started by a local flourmilling and provender firm, Wood Bros., Ltd., of Addington. Bulk handling of mash is growing in popularity in the poultry industry and until now, deliveries have been made in sacks and tipped into a portable hopper which augers the mash up into the farm

hopper. This is the first bulk tanker in the South Island but one or two have been operating for some time in the North Island. The tanker carries a load of five tons in two compartments and can discharge its full load in about 20 minutes. It was designed and built locally. The saving to the poultryman is about £2 10s a ton for

the bulk delivery, and the farm hopper shown in the photograph is a typical installation. It costs about £159 or it can be rented at £1 a month.

Experiments have shown that a full range of the various types of mashes can be handled by the tanker, which will also handle pellets without breaking them.
