SON OF N.Z. MARE

Colt Shows Promise [London Correspondent] LONDON, May 25. A good, strong, well-propor-tioned yearling brown colt by Gilles De Retz, winner of the 2000 Guineas in 1956, out of the New Zealand-bred mare. Zizette. will go into training in November. As yet unnamed, this yearling is a grand mover. He is owned by Lord Norrie, who brought Zizette (Fox-bridge—-Crucible) to the United Kingdom in 1957, when his term of office as Governor - General expired. Gilles De Retz, by Royal Charger out of Ma Soeur Anne, retired to the stud in 1958, and he had four winners in his first crop. Zizette, unfortunately, lost last March her fifth foal—a colt by Above Suspicion (Court , Martial Above Board). The foal arrived five weeks early and survived only a week after a virus infection. Zizette, herself none the worse, looks the picture of health and has been certified in foal to Ossian 11, a brown horse by Royal Charger out of Pru it Polly, tracing back to Polly, which has been getting quite a lot of winners in recent years. It has not yet been arranged which stallion Zizette will visit in 1964, but it is hoped that she may be able to return to the Queen’s Aureole in 1965. Her second foal was by Aureole (bred by Lord Norrie) and, on the large side, was sold as a foal to Mr J. Taylor at the Newmarket Sales. In Canada, where he is racing today, he recently scored two consecutive victories and was placed twice as a three-year-old. Zizette’s first foal is the successful Desert Chief, a good winner in Australia and New Zealand. Her third, a black three-year-old filly by Zarathustra, is in training with George Todd at Manton and will be raced by Lord Norrie, in partnership with Mr Woolf Fisher, of Auckland. A fine, strong individual with good action, she did not race as a two-year-old, but her breeding and looks suggest she will make a good stayer. Zizette’s fourth foal, by Hugh Lupus, is a most attractive two-year-old brown filly named Lucky Lu which will, according to present plans make her racing debut before the end of June. Hugh Lupus (Djebel—Sakountala) won eight races to the value of £15.000 and is the sire of Heathersett, which won the St. Leger after falling as favourite in last year’s sensational Derby melee.
