WELLINGTON. May 30

Six young technicians from the foui main centres have been selected by the Council for Technical Education to receive travel awards to study for a year in Britain, the chairman of toe council Mr T Spencer, announced today In Britain they will receive advanced training experience of a type not obtainable in New Zealand. The six technicians the first to receive the awards, will leave in August. They are:

Mr D. 1. Clifford aged 33. of Christchurch. He is an engineer’s assistant in the District Railway Engineer’s office, and will study semiconductor development (transistors. etc.i and . their application to modern railway communications and signalling systems. Messrs C. N. Maddock (Auckland!, television studio equipment; P EL. Munro (Wellington), communications systems; D W Holmes (Wellington* heat transference; A. W. Bengham (Dunedin) mechanical and production engineering; R. A. Stilwell (Auckland), control systems.
