Ltd., was in the last day of operation The £lB.OOO factory was up for sale and the staff was being paid off toda The blaze started when a young employee turned an electrical switch in the lacquer room and a spark flew out. setting fire to the tinder-dry lacquer and wooden walls When the Lower Hutt Fire Brigade arrived the fire had almost gutted one end of the building and flames, fed by stocks of wooden furniture, were leaping through the roof. Nothing could be done to save the main part of the factory.
