FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A weak ridge of high pressure covers the central Tasman Sea and a weak trough of low pressure is passing eastwards across the country. Pressures are very low far to the south of the South Island and the Tasman Sea. Forecast:—

Canterbury.—Variable winds; isolated light showers in the north early, otherwise fine and rather cool Outlook: fine. Buller and Westland.—Moderate, south-westerly winds; fine and rather cool.
