Magistrates Court BROKE INTO HOUSE AND STOLE £18

Charged with breaking and entering a house at 31 Golt Links road on March 30, Simon Patrick Cafianan, aged 21, a workman, was convicted and remanded on bail to May 31 for sentence by Mr E. S J. Crutchley, SM., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. Callanan (Mr G. T. Mahon) pleaded guilty. Senior - Sergeant G. M. Cleary said the house was broken- into and £lB taken from a drawer. Callanan was on probation at present for an offence committed since March 30. Mr Mahon said that Callanan was sentenced on May 3 on a similar charge. He had worked steadily since his conviction and the present charge was in the nature of a wash-ing-up charge. FINED £3 Robert Charles Fluty was fined £3 when he pleaded guilty to committing a breach of probation in that he failed to report on March 21.

FOUND DRUNK Pleading guilty to being found drunk in Manchester street on May 27, James O’Brien, aged 56, a workman, was fined £2. He was a statutory second offender. DANGEROUS SPEED

Brian John Roberts, aged 20, a railways employee, was fined £l2 10s, and his driver’s licence was cancelled for a year from June 12, when he was convicted on a charge of driving at a speed which might have been dangerous on February 6. Roberts (Mr W. A. Wilson), pleaded not guilty. Traffic Officer J. T. Kotoul said he checked Roberts by microwave at 5.20 p.m: travelling 55 miles an hour In Ferry road near Woolston Park. Roberts said he was travelling 40 to 45 miles an hour while passing two other vehicles. PEDESTRIANS FINED Pedestrians had as much of an obligation as motorists, said the Magistrate when fining Warren Stanley Evans £3 on a charge of failing to comply with traffic lights. The Court was told Evans ignored the traffic lights in Manchester street near the Majestic Theatre, disrupting the flow of traffic as he crossed the road.

Weston George Smith was fined £3 for a similar offence at the same place. CHARGE DISMISSED

A charge against Frank Edwards (Mr R. G. Blunt), of parking in an expired meter space, was dismissed. Edwards said the meter was jammed when he attempted to put 3d in. REMANDED David Ernest Hancox, aged 17, a workman, ’was remanded in custody to May 31 on a charge of breaking and entering the premises of the Canterbury Farmers’ Co-operative Company at Falrlle yesterday. Asking that the remand be in custody. Senior-Sergeant Cleary said Hancox had vanished when required' to appear as a witness in the Supreme Court. OTHER TRAFFIC CASES

On the amended charge. to w’hich Barnsley pleaded guilty, he was fined £lO and his driver's licence cancelled for three months. He pleaded not guilty to the original charge. A charge of overloading a rental vehicle was dismissed. Barnsley pleaded not guilty. He was fined £lO for failing to supply information, to which he pleaded guilty.
