FASHION AWARDS
‘Sunday Times’
Contest
The first of the “Sunday Times’’ fashion awards, which will be made later this year, will focus attention on London as a centre of world fashion. The awards will differ
from other contents in - several ways. They will be international; they will be determined by a Jury. The winning designers will be flown to London with their collections to receive their awards.
Each annual presentation will be accompanied by a gala evening fashion show of the work of the winning designers, says a press release from London. The awards of the new contest will be as flexible as possible. One year there may be one winner and perhaps three special awards; another year three winners and one special award. Humour In Fashion
Awards will go to designers in any country' who have made the greatest contribution to fashion in that year. The winner must have imagination and skill, as well as the capacity to stretch the horizon of fashion to greater distances. The designer need not be too serious. The promoters consider humour and fantasy are also part of fashion. AU fields of fashion will be considered—hats, shoes, jewellery, lingerie a>nd hair dressing, in addition to both made-to-order and mass-pro-duced clothes.
The panel of judges, who will be known as jurors, will include Madame Helene Gor-don-Lazareff, editor of “Elie” magazine (France); Miss Eleanor Lambert, organiser of the Coty Award (United States), and Mrs Ernestine Carter, women's editor of the “Sunday Times.” Each will appoint a committee to help her.
Final judging will be held in Paris ip August and the winners will be announced on September 1. The fashion show will be presented at the London Hflton Hotel in October when the awards will be presented.
