MAGAZINES ATTACKED

Prosecution Urged (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. May 13. Many magazines freely on .sale in Auckland today might well qualify their publisher for prosecution under the Indecent Publications Act, an Auckland lawyer, Mr M. Casey, said today.

He said: “Even if the prosecutions don’t succeed, ••hey will] have the effect of drawing public attention to what is going on.” Mr Casey was addressing the Catholic Men’s Luncheon Club. Mr J. P. Anderton, organiser of the Auckland Catholic Youth Movement, said a survey of 24 shops in and around Auckland had shown that pornographic literature was being bought by young people from the age of 10 or 11 up. “It cannot but have a degrading and harmful effect on values. If youth is subject to a barrage of this material.” he said.
