Ballot For One Member

Only one member would have to be elected by ballot to the University of Canterbury Council this year, ■ the returning officer and registrar, Mr G. G. Turbott, reported when nominations closed last night for the elections This will be the member elected by the governing bodies of secondary schools, for which three nominations were received The two council members elected by the Court of Convocation. Mr C. E. Fenwick and Mr T H. McCombs, will be declared re-elected for a further term.

The member elected by the professorial board is Professor D. A Kidd, who was previously elected for the remainder of the present term when Professor N C. Phillips resigned last year. The three nominees for the secondary schools’ representative are the rector of Timaru Boys’ High School (Mr M. A. Bull), the headmaster of Christchurch Boys' High School (Mr C. F. S. Caldwell), and Professor G. Jobberns, deputy-chairman of the Post-Primary Schools’ Council.

One ballot paper will be sent to each eligible secondary school for the election on June 10 The new member will take his seat on the council at its July meeting.
