Salvation Army Appeal
Sir,—l notice that the Christchurch City Council is to make a donation of £lOOO to the Salvation Army appeal. I trust that, the chairman of the finance committee has satisfied himself that the Salvation Army has no other funds available or in prospect and that the ratepayers approve of the donation being made.—Yours, ete., EX-CORPORAL. April 29, 1963. [Cr. H. P. Smith, chairman of the Christchurch City Council’s finance committee, replies: “I have not satisfied myself that the Salvation Army has no other funds available or in prospect. The Mayor and councillors were unanimous on this donation. They take the view that assistance with this project is to some extent a civic responsibility.”]
