The Town Hall

Sir,—Almost everybody is tired ot building town halls in the air, and want a few facts before making any further donations. Could the following be supplied: (1) Is the site purchased? (2) If not. why not? (3) Is any property owner holding up the purchase? The promotion committee made plenty of noise when a building site held up the first hall site, so let us get cracking now that 95 per cent, are pleased the Victoria square site has been decided on. Those people capable of submitting plans should be asked to do so and their submissions made available for public inspection. Let the invitations be open and not confined to a few. Then we might avoid another Bridge of Remembrance or a building made of black and white squares —Yours, etc., LUX. April 30. 1963. I The acting chairman of the town hall committee (Cr. H. P. Smith) said: “The Limes Hospital part of the site has been purchased. Negotiations are in hand for the other parts. No-one can be said to be ‘holding up’ the purchase. The question of holding a competition for plans will receive consideration within the next few weeks. Invitations will be open.*’]
