POST-PRIMARY MUSICIANS

Holiday Course In Christchurch A busy week of musicmaking commenced at the Christchurch Teachers’ College yesterday for more than 90 post-primary school children from all over New Zealand. Under the direction of the national adviser on schools’ music, Mr W. H. WaldenMills, the orchestra members will rehearse six hours each day for their full concert programme on Saturday night in the college hall. “This is a valuable experience for young members of school orchestras, and many who have attended the course have gone on to join the National Youth Orchestra,” Mr Walden-Mills said last evening. “Our aim is to bring together the cream of school orchestras so that they have the opportunity to play adult music in a strong . group. "In turn, of course, these young people are able to give a better lead in their school music because of their experience here.” A concert programme to be presented on Saturday is a demanding one. Among the items will be the Overture Maestersinger by Wagner, the Suite Coppelia by Delius. La Parisienne by Offenbach. Serenade from Hassan by Delius, and a Modern Suite by York Bowen.
