Boxing HAGEN WINS FIGHT

Injury Upsets Liddle’s Attack

(N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, May. 13. In one of the most thrilling finishes to a professional bout in Invercargill for many years, D. Hagen, of Makarewa, tonight beat R. Liddle, of Melbourne, on a technical knock-out at the end of the ninth round. After an interesting seven rounds, in which Hagen was able to pick off Liddle with both hands and side-step bis many onslaughts by superb footwork, the fight swung Liddle’s way. Shaken by a stinging right swing, Hagen rocked on his heels from an onslaught which found him unable to keep the Victorian away. Liddle drove Hagen along the ropes, peppering him into submission. At the interval, Liddle's eye was examined by a doctor who declared him unfit to carry on and the fight was stopped. Hagen thus won the bout by a technical knock-out.
