AUCKLAND. May 13. New Zealand should not get the idea that it was unimportant in overall defence strategy because it was relatively small and remote, the commander-in-chief of the United States Navy’s Pacific fleet, Admiral John H. Sides, told guests at a Mayoral reception today. Both Australia and New Zealand had helped American forces in the Pacific during World War II by providing bases, he added.
