The newspaperman, 51-years-old Harold Philby, Middle East correspondent of the London Sunday paper the “Observer” and also of the “Economist," disappeared from his Beirut home on January 23. The Middle East Agency quoted reports from Saudi Arabian border areas saying Mr Philby was at present with Prince Abdullah Al Hassan and his followers in a mountainous border area.

The prirfee's group was moving from place to place and attempting to form an army to fight supporters of the Yemeni president, Marshal Abdullah Ale Sallal, according to the reports. Mr Philby and his companions were “sleeping in caves and eating mountain rabbits,” they said. When Mr Philby disappeared his wife reported his disappearance, but later said she had received messages, including a telegram dated March 1, from him in Cairo.
