ADMINISTRATION CONVENTION
Christchurch Talks End
The need for setting objectives in each sector of the economy and for improved management techniques, were clearly the most important conclusions from the papers read, at the convention of the New Zealand Institute of Public Administration, said the retiring president of the institute (Mr P. J. O’Dea) at the close of the convention in Christchurch.
Mr O’Dea said the preference of the speakers was for an independent body of private enterprise and Government officials to advise the Government on objectives. The convention addresses, said Mr O’Dea, were to be edited by the director of the New Zealand Institute of Economic Research (Dr. Conrad Blyth). They would be published by the Institute of Public Administration. The book would be on sale before Christmas. The national executive committee elected at the final session of the council meeting was: President, Mr L. T. Heath, Wellington; deputypresident, Mr E, K. Phillips: secretary, Mr D. G. Henderson; treasurer, Mr A. J. Beck; auditor, Mr K. D. Gillespie; committee, Messrs R. D. Sutherland, J. Haugh, K. Hayes, R. A. Kelly, G. A. Weston. J. P. M. Cornwall, C. A. Hudson, E. L Gilchrist, J. R. Robertson, B. Brown, N. C. Angus and Miss P Mcßride. The new president. Mr Heath, is Director of Postal Services at the General Post Office, Wellington. He represents the Hutt Valley Cricket Association on the New Zealand Cricket Council.
